The Molecular Diagnosis and Genotyping Facility

The Molecular Diagnosis and Genotyping Facility (Shared Resource) provides diverse, technically sophisticated and state-of-the-art molecular biology assays and expertise to facilitate projects in basic, translational, and clinical research. As a centralized resource, it not only provides instrumentation and services in a cost-effective manner, but works closely with investigators on experimental design, data analysis and data interpretation. This close relationship has consistently stimulated new applications by researchers such as single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping and gene expression analyses, and has facilitated interactions among investigators. The facility’s mission is to ensure that all University of Pennsylvania investigators have access to both high quality, cost-effective services as well as to the scientific expertise necessary for using this technology in their research efforts.

Main location: 7 Gates & Maloney Buildings

Services:

  • Nucleic acid extractions
  • Polymerase chain reactions (PCR) assays
  • High throughput SNP genotyping
  • DNA fragment sizing and quantification, including microsatellite analysis
  • Gene expression assays by real time PCR
