Medical Technology Program
The University of Pennsylvania Health System offers training in Medical Technology through The School of Medical Technology at Pennsylvania Hospital. This is a hospital-based training program that is conducted within 11 individual laboratory sections. The program aims to provide students with an appreciation for the professional responsibility of rendering diagnostic services to the sick and injured. Students are given both practical and theoretical training in various sections of the clinical laboratory. The practicum is a 12-month rotating program based on a 40-hour week, beginning in late August. The program devotes five hours per week to formal lectures.
The School of Medical Technology is affiliated with Penn State University, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, East Stroudsburg University, Bloomsburg University, West Chester University, Gwynedd-Mercy College and Kutztown University. The Medical Technology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS), which is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
