Application Process
Overview/Highlights:All applications are accepted via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) only. For information, go to: http://www.aamc.org/eras. Paper applications will not be considered.
U.S. medical graduates are required to provide a completed ERAS application, curriculum vitae, personal statement, USMLE score(s), dean’s letter, and three (3) current letters of recommendation.
International medical graduates are required to provide a completed ERAS application, curriculum vitae, personal statement, three (3) current letters of recommendation, a current ECFMG certificate and USMLE scores, steps 1 and 2. H1 visas and J1 visas are sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania and its Hospital, respectively.
Only seniors graduating from United States medical schools are required to apply through the Match. U.S. graduates who have done any post-graduate (post-MD) training are not required to apply through the Match; nor are international medical graduates or those applying for other than a first-year position.
The deadline for applications is November 15th of each year.
Each completed application is reviewed by the Residency Selection Committee and a decision is made as to whether to offer an interview. Interview invitations are extended via email and a mutually convenient date is arranged, generally from November 1 through January 31.
Due to the large number of applications received each year from well-qualified individuals, only a small group of applicants are invited for interviews.
