Coagulation Medicine Fellowship

Overview:

This one-year program trains academic physicians interested in clinical coagulation as well as basic research. The applicant participates in all activities of the Coagulation Laboratory of the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania, including: evaluation of patients, test design and analysis, quality assurance, research projects, laboratory administration, and teaching clinical pathology residents and hematology fellows.

The fellowship is specifically designed to initiate exposure to coagulation for individuals interested in an academic career with a research component (basic or translational) who are eligible for support through a T32 training grant in hemostasis and thrombosis.

Requirements:

Completion of an accredited residency program in clinical pathology or a fellowship in hematology/internal medicine with demonstrated strong interest in research.

Types and Numbers of Appointments:

The number of appointments is dependent on a concerted effort regarding either a basic science or clinical research project by the applicant(s) with guidance by departmental faculty.

Facilities:

The Coagulation Laboratory serves as a regional referral laboratory for a wide range of complex coagulation problems. Its faculty consists of three senior investigators with expertise in platelet physiology, vascular biology, fibrinolysis, autoimmunity and molecular biology of coagulation proteins. Programs are closely integrated with those of the Hematopathology and Molecular Diagnosis sections within the department, with programs in the Hematology Division, and with departments at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Stipends:

Stipends are commensurate with year of postgraduate training.
