Point of Care Testing

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine provides oversight for all Point of Care Testing (POCT) performed in the Hospitals and CPUP Practices. All testing must be performed in compliance with State, Federal, CAP and JCAHO regulations. Permission for a Patient Care Unit or CPUP Practice to perform POCT testing must be obtained from the POCT Oversight Committee that consists of clinicians, nurses and lab representatives.

Examples of testing performed on selected Patient Care Units and in CPUP Practices include Glucose, Whole Blood Clotting Times, Co-oximetry, Fecal Occult Blood, and Pregnancy.
